From the moment we are born until the moment we die, karma is a part of our lives. This is because every action we take, as well as every time we stop doing something, creates karma, and there is no way to avoid it. Naturally, not all of the karma we produce is the same; there is a type of karma that binds us to this life and another type that frees us from the reincarnation cycle. The karma that binds us, known as Vishayakarma, results in misery and a lack of inner peace. On the other hand, the karma that is generated by good or uninterested actions, known as Sreyokarma, enables us to achieve the prosperity and happiness of the soul—which is much more than just being happy on the outside. We are thrown into the arms of the desire, greed, and ego demons whenever we engage in an activity with the intention of achieving a particular result. On the other hand, the kind of pure actions that we perform for love without considering the potential consequences of those actions are the kind of actions that gradually move us toward illumination and liberation. That ones whose nature allows them to carry out this kind of unselfish activities, little by little realize that God provides them of all that they need and of all that confers them the interior peace. Meditation is yet another method for achieving the desired inner peace. Perhaps you might ask yourself why? Why is the meditation so necessary?
Because the man always acts in two dimensions, the external dimension governed by the physical senses, and the internal dimension governed by the intelligence and the mind.
The internal conscience cannot move for itself, but rather needs the guide of the intelligence and the mind, that are the ones related with the external world, they are as the oxen that pull a carriage. These oxen are anxious to begin to walk, but to take us to the correct destination they should be educated, they should be indicated which is the route that takes us to the place to which wants to arrive the internal conscience. Additionally, these are the paths of love, peace, rightness, and truth. Then to liberate us from the enslaving karma, it is necessary to teach the intelligence and mind’s oxen the art of dragging the carriage of the internal conscience, and this is achieved by means of the practices of the meditation and the repetition of the name of God.
And the conscience, to be able to guide the oxen of the intelligence and the mind, must calm and control the conflicting desires that infest the mind, and this is achieved when we learn how to point our mind to a single direction.
The Divine Splendor, able to burn the wrong and illuminate the happiness, is revealed when the confused mind dives into the view thanks to the meditation and repeats the name of the Lord. It is easy to understand the benefits of the meditation. Anyone that undertakes a task, knows that only when he concentrates his efforts toward a single point, he can achieve the desired success. Even the most insignificant tasks require concentration, and the power of an unshakable effort is so big, that even the worst difficulties surrender to it.
When we practice the meditation in the Supreme Being, the mind learns how to retire its attention from the material objects, and the life acquires a new splendor when we get aware of the Divine Essence that is inside us, and guides us into the state of Blessedness.
How sweet is a fruit? There’s no way to explain that appropriately, the only way of knowing that is to eat the fruit.
How well does the meditation work? There’s no way of knowing the taste of its fruits until we don’t decide to experience it.
God. Many of us at times, become very helpless about a problem and leave the work to God. Let God do whatever He wants now. I am out of this. I cannot do anything anymore. I leave this to God. This happens many times in our life when we feel helpless. Talk to a terminal cancer patient who has given up all the hopes, and you will hear only about God. Am I correct? We also give God many other things. Sometimes knowingly and many more times, without any knowledge. Let me elaborate. There is so much misery in the world, so much poverty and sickness. A majority of us have left these suffering people to God. Does this make sense? We make no effort to help. This is what I meant when I said it haphazardly. We are not bad, but we are so overwhelmed with our own life and have become so immune to misery around us that we make no effort to help these people, but leave them to God. Some of us don’t take this attitude, but try and do whatever we can. Like Mother Teresa did. These individuals become saints. Now let us talk of something very cruel. How can leaving someone to God be cruel? This sounds contradictory. However, this occurs. Let us see how. A mother leaving her new born child on the street corner. Why? She had no desire for the child. She does not know what to tell the world about the child. She needs to maintain her social standing. She has her own problems. So what can she do? She leaves the helpless child to God. Oh, Lord, In all your mercy, please take care of my child. I leave my child to you. And she walks away acting as if nothing happened. How do you look at this? Why did she sacrifice a newborn to her false sense of prestige? Why did she give society more importance than her helpless child? Why did she want to keep this facade of truth? Did she make God happy with her action? What is the name of this? If this is not cruel, then what else is this? Why did she not pray to God – Oh, God, I have this lovely child. I don’t know how to bring up this child. I don’t know what to tell my relatives about this child. I don’t know how to face many problems that will come while bringing up this child? Please help me. I cannot leave my child alone. I will bring up my child myself. Please help me. Please have your mercy on me? Why don’t such people leave themselves to mercy of God? Why do they attempt to get up, earn money, prepare food, and eat on their own? When they are ill, why do they see a doctor? Why don’t they always say, God, I am sick, please take care. God, I am hungry. Please take care. They don’t. Because they don’t have total faith in Lord. The faith and surrender that makes them leave their every life issue to God is absent. But these same mothers leave someone totally helpless to the mercy of God. Such mothers are cruel and ruthless. God does not love them, but sends them to hell forever. Many of us leave our beloved to God and walk out. Leaving behind a shattered life, we justify our action saying – I leave you to God. There is no bigger cruelty than leaving one’s beloved when they need one most. God never forgives such evil people.
Salutations, self-help readers! The numerous opportunities we have to learn every day amaze me. I'm referring to the opportunities we have every day to grow as individuals. Both the good and the bad things that happen to us can teach us something. Everyone, according to me, has the potential to become a teacher. The Bible itself describes how God works in all things for the benefit of those who love Him. I believe this. Mr. According to Kahlil Gibran, even though we are ungrateful for this teacher, we can learn kindness from the unkind. Yes, mean people have the power to teach us to be more polite. From a spiritual perspective, we can decide to be nice when we see how ugly mean words and actions look. Physical or spiritually, no one wants to be ugly. I will make much better decisions if I concentrate on learning rather than reacting. You see, I make decisions based on my feelings rather than my intellect or spirituality when I just react. I have learned that when I respond in a mean manner to a mean person, it is like matching fire with fire. In these cases both people are likely to be burned. I can instead choose to match their fire of unkindness with the water of kindness. We all know that water puts out fire. It is up to me as to how I will respond. When you are asked to be spiritual, how do you respond? Do you associate cruelty with kindness or cruelty? love to hate or hate to hate? If we take the time to learn and not react we will grow into the people the creator of the universe has called us to be. By not responding in a kind way and learning how to handle situations, we can become quite spiritually tall and eventually dwarf the unkind demons. The same situations will most likely repeat themselves. Once we learn how to deal with them correctly we should be able to handle them better when they come around again. Life After Death – Is It Really Necessary That We Prove It? Recently, I came across a book written in 1918 by Arthur Conan Doyle called “The New Revelation”. It was his first book concerning his views on spiritualism and psychic phenomena. It was fascinating to read because a lot of the "proof" he gathered and retold about "life" in the afterlife is still the same as what our psychics, mediums, and other researchers in the metaphysical field tell us. The fact of the matter is that there is evidence of an afterlife for centuries. People throughout time have talked about angels, visitations from spirits, ghost entities, poltergeists, and communications from beyond. There are still a lot of stories about reincarnation, many of which come from young children who wouldn't have had access to them or the knowledge to imagine and write some of them. With our modern medicine and life-saving medical equipment, the occurrences of near death experiences are being brought into the open more and more often. How much more "proof" do we really require? And yet…skeptics still abound. The fact that a number of polls and statistics indicate that approximately 80% of the world's population holds the following beliefs: that there is a Heaven, that we have a soul and that it continues to exist after our “physical” deaths, that there is a creator who watches over us, and that there is life after death. This makes the findings even more intriguing. About half of the remaining 20% are undecided and are "sitting on the fence" about their beliefs. That leaves just 10% of human beings that we need to “convince and show proof too.” In which case I need to ask this question… Why do we need to prove anything to this very small minority of people? As I mentioned at the beginning, I had just finished reading Doyle’s “The New Revelation” (you can read the entire book online at our website). While reading, I came across a very interesting statement that he made and one in which we should all think about: “We have reached a point where further proof is unnecessary, and those who deny bear the burden of disproof. The very people who clamour for proofs have, as a rule, never taken the trouble to examine the copious proofs which already exist…” Isn’t that an interesting remark made by someone almost a century ago? “…where the weight of disproof lies upon those who deny…” The proof has been all around us forever and most of us know this. And yet, here we are in the twenty-first century STILL trying to provide proof that there really is a spiritual realm. How about we put the burden of proof on the disbelievers and have them DISPROVE the existence of an afterlife? The reality is that they can’t – there’s too much evidence that indicates that there is more to the existence of “life” than our physcial senses can comprehend. Think about it. Has anyone shown you absolute proof that once you die, that’s it, game over, nothing more exists? Yet, skeptics constantly spout this theory. Well, if this is true, where’s the documented research and proof? Is there life after death? The thousands upon thousands of thoroughly investigated and documented metaphysical cases point to the fact that there is definitely something beyond the material experiences of our physical realm. The believers in a spiritual afterlife really have nothing left to prove. It’s time we turned the tables and required that the disbelievers prove to the majority of the world that life ends with our physical death. Oh, by the way, good luck with that.
