Now we see another problem, since this person will trust the parents before listening to someone else that tells him or her that they are safe and it is ok to speak your mind. Since self-talk is an approach that helps us rely on ourselves rather than others, we can first teach this person to practice self-talk. Self-talk is a method that tells us that we have control and that we have a right to determine what we think, feel and believe. The method teaches us to take responsibility and learn communication that is effective, since our thinking habits are in the process of change. We can also assist the individual by providing him or her with the visual display tool. Visual display is helpful since it allows us to stroll back into the past and review our learning so that we can sort through the facts and eliminate the lies. It teaches us to imagine a picture of an event and then role-play it to see if what we have been taught is true. Consider a time in your life when you spoke up without being harmed or punished for it. Think about how many times this happened and what the consequences of your behavior led to. Practice these techniques daily to learn a new method that benefits you and your life. You probably won't ever be able to predict behaviors if you haven't already.
